Medical Care Program

Tour Details

Medical Care Program is a 20-day healthcare volunteer program whereby the volunteers get a chance to work in a rural hospital as well as play a part in the welfare of the local community within the foothills of Mount Everest. The program is appropriate for medical students, doctors, nurses and health practitioners who want to be involved in community service and acquire practical experience.

The volunteers will be stationed in Necha Community Hospital (NCH), which is a 15-bed hospital that offers healthcare services to more than 60,000 individuals in 18 villages around the area. In addition, they will be guided by skilled medical practitioners on how to offer assistance in the nursing, patient care, hospital activities, and other day-to-day operations. Furthermore, they get an understanding of the challenges and benefits of offering health services in remote mountain communities.

Services offered in the hospital include 24-hour emergency services, outpatient services, inpatient care, antenatal care, maternity services, pharmacy and laboratory, ultrasound services, X-rays, and minor surgery. The volunteers have a chance to enhance their medical skills through participation in these activities.

Aside from the hands-on training experience, there is the chance to get involved with the Nepalese culture and learn about their customs, ways of life, and the way they survive in the rural Himalayan communities. The Medical Care Program offers not only professional growth but also cultural immersion and community service, making it a truly unforgettable experience.
